Very small, not widely known, quiet and with very few visitors, this pretty Mallorcan beach is very close to Can Picafort and to our 5 hotels in the north of Mallorca: JS Sol de Can Picafort, JS Can Picafort, JS Horitzo, JS Miramar and JS Yate.

The “Cala Serralot” is located between the beach of Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina and it is just 40 metres long by 200 wide. Es Serralot represents an alternative to the more crowded beaches or those close to the town centres, since there are no sunbeds or sunshades for hire, no beach bar and no lifeguards. Anybody who visits this beach will have the sensation of being on a desert island (the vegetation that surrounds the beach helps to create that sensation).

The beach is formed by a mixture of gravel and sand, waves are moderate with swell, and a light breeze normally blows from the north or north-west.

It is the ideal spot to visit with a picnic from the hotel, to walk along the beach of Can Picafort as far as “Es Serralot”, bathe in its crystalline waters and totally unwind.

Summer is just around the corner and we continue to show you the island’s best beaches so that you can plan the route for your holiday in Majorca. Today we will discuss Cala Estancia, which is located in the south, just 11 km from Palma, Majorca, very close to the residential and tourist area of Can Pastilla and therefore close to our new hotel in Majorca: the 4-star JS Palma Stay.

It is a spacious, fine-white-sand beach, which is 220 metres long and around 37 metres wide. This beach in Majorca has various access points, including access for tourists with disabilities and its occupancy rate tends to be high given that it is located in an urban area.

Cala Estancia has a high security level, hammock rental service, kiosks and spas, and tends to be awarded the Blue Flag year after year. Its conditions are ideal for bathing due to the calm waters, waves, light breezes and the mild incline of the beach itself.

In the Alcudia Municipality and close to our Majorca hotel, the JS Sol de Alcudia, you will find the “Es Coll Baix” beach, the only virgin and public municipal beach.

This lead-colour gravel and coarse sand beach is a broad and straight inlet from the sea that ends in a spectacular beach, flanked by sloping rocky cliffs and closed by an embankment of considerable height, whose collapse originated the beach.  The water is pristine, usually with a moderate swell and a pleasant NW, N or NE breeze.

The area is guarded at 445 metres high by defence Tower from the 16th century, the sa Talaia d’Alcúdia or Victòria Tower, which overlooks the bays of Alcúdia and Pollença.

The beach is distanced from urban areas and is quite remote, although it still has a municipal lifeguard and rescue service.

To reach this dream beach in Majorca, be prepared to make an excursion off the beaten track, including along the foot of a cliff. As it is difficult to access on foot, only a few people go there and its 50 m wide by 220 m long beach can be enjoyed by only those who have decided to make this pleasant excursion (around 8.5 km from Alcudia) on trails and unpaved roads. The walk to the beach takes about 45 min and the last 5 km are on dusty tracks along the base of the cliff.

This beach is a must-see for all nature and beach lovers, it is a real treasure in a protected space.

Can Picafort is nine kilometres from Santa Margalida. It is the tourist, residential and urban hub par excellence in the municipality, and one of the oldest on the Alcudia Bay, in the north of Majorca.

Playa de Can Picafort is a bustling, kilometre-long beach of fine and golden sand along which there are all kinds of services: A walkway for disabled people, telephones, showers, washrooms, boat launch, Red Cross, rubbish bins and nautical sports area.

Incidentally, the writer Concha Alós based her novel Las Hogueras (which won the Planeta award in 1964) on the quiet Can Picafort Beach at the end of the 1950s.

The beach is 1,300 metres long and 30 metres wide. It has a moderate swell and a constant breeze varying from N, NE to SE. The slope is gentle, making it ideal for families. This beach in Majorca has a lifeguard service, deck chairs, umbrellas, etc., and as is customary, the blue flag is granted every summer.

All these features explain the massive influx of local and tourist beachgoers.

Access by highway is easy following the signage. Private vehicles must be parked on the streets near this beach, and the nearest bus stop is 100 metres away.

Playa de S’Illot, at five kilometres from Alcudia, separates the bays of Alcúdia and Pollença, and takes its name from the islet there (“illot” in Catalonian means islet).

This beautiful cove in the shape of two half-moons has a gravel slope and a pine forest at the back.

This coast is not suitable for launching boats because it is very low, although access by highway is easy following the road signs.

S’Illot, at 600 metres long and 15 metres wide, has a moderate swell and a N to NE breeze. Its waters are clear and with a rocky base.

This beach has become one of the most frequented beaches by family and tourists on this part of the coast because of its proximity to the highway. Our Majorca hotel, the JS Sol de Alcudia, is the nearest hotel to this idyllic beach.

The Beach also has a chiringuito (beach bar) on a small cliff with pretty and relaxing views over the bay of Pollensa. It is mainly characterised by the islet that the bay overlooks and those who enjoy rowing often come here.

This centre specialising in cycling can be accessed directly from the street, has a gym with specific workout machines, a relaxation area (with Wi-Fi) and massage service.

We can also offer the extensive experience of our partner, “Mallorca Sportiv”, and their tour services, providing outings along the best cycling tourism routes on Majorca. There is also a shop in our cycling centre, to cover all the cycling needs of professional and amateur cyclists or cycling tourists.

During breaks, the race participants made the most out of our facilities, including our incredible swimming pool, sports facility, table tennis and arcade games. In addition, JS Hotels was one of the event’s sponsors.

Our JS Es Corso hotel is not the only one to host events of this sort. Our JS Cape Colom complex, which is also located in Porto Colom and has exceptional facilities and views, also welcomes similar groups on a regular basis.

The race, taking place in Porto Colom waters, included more than 100 registered yachts coming from Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza. It is part of the qualifying round where the teams that will take part in the Spanish Sailing Championships representing the Balearic Islands will be selected.

It is worth highlighting that among those registered was Carlos Roselló, from Ibiza, who was 2^nd place at the World Championship 2011, in the Laser 4.7 class, and 15^th place in the last European Championship, in the Laser Radial class.

The participants were able to enjoy some wonderful weather, which was most of great assistance during the course of the race stages. In fact, Porto Colom offers some spectacular opportunities to combine your free time with water sports and leisure activities.

There is a wide variety of water sports and related leisure activities that are perfect for Porto Colom waters: from boat trips, sailing and canoeing, underwater diving activities in the beautiful local waters and windsurfing to water-skiing rentals on Cala Marçal beach, diving, and so on.
